Gritness

I've been doing a lot of work with the start-up Gritness for the past year.   Gritness is a network which facilitates the creation and organization of cycling, running, yoga, and group fitness activities.  It's an Austin based start-up founded by two avid cyclists.  The project has come a long way, and I'm pleased to see this great article about Gritness and its founders in the Austin Business Journal.  Also, Gritness was just placed on a list of Top 10 New Android Apps Worth Checking Out.  Don't worry, fellow iPhone users, there is an app for you as well.

Austin City Council District 5

Yes, the rumors are true.  I am running for Austin City Council to represent District 5.  I filed the treasurer form with the Austin City Clerk this afternoon.  Nick Laurent, an attorney with McGinnis Lochridge and a Zilker neighborhood resident, is the treasurer of the #FloydFor5 campaign.  Monty Exter, a resident of Shady Hollow, has signed on to be Finance Chair.   Stay tuned for more information.  We'll have a website and Facebook page up soon.  You can follow me on Twitter at @wdfloyd and you can look for the hashtag #FloydFor5

Check out the results of the Voices of the Austin Community Zandan Poll.  Not surprisingly, traffic/roads/transportation tops the list of concerns.

Man of the Year

Sara Foskitt and Dave Floyd

Thanks to the hard work of the Fight with Floyd Team, we raised a truckload of money for The South Central Texas Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Our team included:

We had a great time with our team fundraising events, including trivia night at Dive Bar & Lounge and our Dancing-for-Dollars at Donn's Depot (the latter made possible by generous dance lessons from Go Dance Studios).

The Grand Finale Gala was very fun.  The team and guests filled my table, as well as tables purchased by De Leon & Washburn, PC, and United Health Care.

+Dave Floyd is a lawyer with De Leon & Washburn as well as a possible candidate for Austin City Council District 5.

AYLA wins TYLA Awards

From the AYLA Facebook page:

AYLA was just named as having the best comprehensive programming for a large city bar association in Texas for the second year in a row by the Texas Young Lawyers Association! AYLA received 1st Place Public Service Project (The Reentry Project), 2nd Place Member Service Project (AYLA Trial Academy), and 1st Place Comprehensive! Congratulations to the Austin Young Lawyers Association, its Board of Directors, and members!
This is great news!  I love working with Austin Young Lawyers Association, and am very happy about becoming the AYLA Board Secretary for the 2014-2015 bar year.   Also, finding out that the Reentry Project won 1st Place in the Public Service Project Category is especially nice considering AYLA just received a grant to translate it into Spanish.

Man of the Year

This is it.  Team Fight with Floyd has until 3p today to collect online donations for the 2014 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Man of the Year fundraising campaign.  Through online fundraising, live events, and the amazing generosity of our supporters we're raised a truckload of money for blood cancer research.  That being said, we'd like to blow out our fundraising here in the home stretch.

You only get to run for man of the year once.  If you've been wanting to donate to my campaign, now is your last chance. http://www.mwoy.org/pages/sctx/austin14/DaveFloyd

Donations of all sizes help, and if you have a friend who cares about our cause please forward this email their way.

Thanks for your support!
