Events: Austin Habitat Young Professionals August Happy Hour
Mark you calendars for August 23rd. In honor of the upcoming Karaoke 5K, Austin Habitat Young Professionals will have a karaoke themed happy hour at Highball. There will be free karaoke and other fun activities.

Special thanks to our July happy hour sponsor: Tabbedout.com. I signed up for Tabbedout in order to take advantage of the special they worked out for HYP. I'm not sure why I hadn't signed up for this service earlier. The Tabbedout mobile app lets you follow your tab (at a participating bar or restaurant) and then pay out. Thus, all you have to do to leave a bar (in which you are using Tabbedout) is to press a few buttons on your phone before taking off. It's easy and convient.
And, of course, thanks to the good folks from Karaoke 5K for stopping by to sign up some people for their upcoming event. Proceeds from the Karaoke 5K will go to benefit HYP and Austin Habitat for Humanity. Ergo, it will be fun for a good cause. Sign up now, as space in the Karaoke 5K is limited.

Events: HYP Hard Hat Happy Hour

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Rattle Inn last evening for the Austin Habitat Young Professionals Hard Hat Happy Hour (as you can see by the photo, there were indeed real hard hats for us to wear). Also, special thanks to HYP Board Member Mike Golden and his law firm, Boulette & Golden, for sponsoring last night's event. It was very generous and we all greatly appreciated the sponsorship. Also, it was great to see HYP's good friend Adam come over to sign people up for the upcoming Karaoke 5K. All in all it last night was the ideal way to kick off the 2012 Summer of HYP.
HYP's next event will be on July 26th. It will be for members only. More details to come.
HYP's next house build, also for members only, will be only August 18th. I like building houses more than I hate the heat, so I'll be there (with plenty of Gatorade). Join HYP and join us to build.

Events: Austin HYP Hard Hat Happy Hour
Austin Habitat Young Professionals ("HYP") is kicking off it's summer with the HYP Hard Hat Happy Hour on June 28th at the Rattle Inn downtown. Yes, you will get a hard hat. Wear it as HYP breaks ground for an exceptional summer.
HYP has upcoming:
- July HYP Member's Only Event
- August 18th Build Day for Members
- August Member Event and Pre Karaoke 5K Party
What is becoming a member of HYP about? In short, it's about building. Building leadership, social networks, professional networks, and community. But most importantly, it's about building lives through the experience of Habitat for Humanity. If you are a young professional in Austin who's ready to build homes and change lives while having some fun and meeting like-minded people then you should consider joining us.
What does HYP ask of you? First, we ask for a donation of only $20 per month. Once you become a member, we ask for a commitment to help Austin Habitat for Humanity build communities by volunteering to assist HYP's fundraising efforts (which can include working on fun events), volunteering to work on HYP builds, or advocating for affordable housing in some capacity. Of course, you can do all of the above.
Dave Floyd is the President of Austin Habitat Young Professionals. He is also the CEO & General Counsel of Prism Risk Management, LLC.
