Austin Events: Creative Fund's Gatsby Fundraiser

Save the date for The Creative Fund's Gatsby themed event at the Caswell House on January 31st, 2013.  If you enjoyed last Spring's Through the Looking Glass event, then you will find even more to like at Gatsby.  Stay tuned for more information in the next couple of weeks...

The Creative Fund raises money in order to provide rental subsidy grants to performing arts groups so that the can access venues in Austin.

Events: The Creative Fund Holiday Happy Hour

I'm very excited about the upcoming Creative Fund Holiday Happy Hour at Donn's Depot on Wednesday the 19th.  First of all, we've got a great crowd coming thus it promises to be a fun event.  Second, if you haven't been to Donn's between Thanksgiving and New Year's, then you are in for a surprise when you see just how thoroughly they deck the halls for Christmas.  And finally, there is a Santa contest in which I am one of the candidates.

Here's how the Santa contest is going to work: from 6-7:30, three of us will be campaigning to be selected at Santa for the rest of the evening.  Voting will be done via donations.  The Santa with the most donations at 7:30 wins.  Proceeds will go toward The Creative Fund's rental subsidy program.  So, we have fun, and next quarter your donations help to get a performing arts group into an Austin venue.  Sounds like a good deal to me.

If helping performing artists access venues in Austin sounds like something you'd like to support, please join us at this event.

Law of Ages: Bar & Grill 20

Tickets are selling out quickly for Law of Ages: Bar & Grill 20.  If you haven't purchased your ticket, now would be a good time to do so.  Seating is assigned, so the fast you purchase your tickets the better your seats will be.

Bar & Grill is an annual fundraiser for the Austin Young Lawyers Association Foundation.   The AYLA Foundation supports a variety of charitable projects, including (but not limited to) Holiday Baskets, Christmas for Kids, They Had a Dream Too, The Women's Resource Fair,  and mentoring programs.  Furthermore, this year a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, an organization which provides pro bono legal services to artists in central Texas.

Fly Fishing

Yesterday I posted a link to a post on An Austin Angler's Journal written by my friend Andy about our 2010 fly fishing trip on the Big Thompson River in Rocky Mountain National Park.   This reminded me that a while back I had written a post about this fly fishing trip and the guide we hired.   Check out each post if you're interested in fly fishing in Colorado and/or on the Big Thompson River.

Andy's post is pretty good... and now I'd rather be fishing in Colorado as opposed to sitting in my office.  I'd also like to note that in 2011 we went back to the Big Thompson but didn't hire a guide.  Andy caught some trout; however, after my less successful attempts I decided that hiring a guide in the future would be money well spent.

An Austin Angler's Journal: The Big Thompson: A buddy of mine and long time local angler, Andy Barclay, was kind enough to write up a piece on a past trip he had to Colorado. Andy is...

Bar & Grill: Law of Ages

Bar & Grill's 20th Anniversary Show: Law of Ages

If there are two things everyone knows, it's that lawyer themed musical comedies are hilarious and that 80's music is awesome.  Now, for one night only, you can experience both on the same stage with Bar & Grill's 20th Anniversary Show: Law of Ages.

In addition to being your best source in Austin for lawyer themed musical comedy, Bar & Grill is an annual fundraiser for the Austin Young Lawyers Association Foundation.
